On April 11 a huge earthquake hit near Sumatra, tsunami warnings spreading throughout the region I was at Phuket airport when it happened  In fact, people think of the Phuket Tsunami largely because many parts of Phuket were lightly damaged and all the news crews and TV crews stayed here in Phuket!

Phuket governor Tree Ackaradecha affirmed that provincial and state agencies are on alert with a warning system if a quake hits the area as The Indian Ocean Tsunami, also known as The Boxing Day Tsunami, struck Phuket and the surrounding areas at 10am on December 26, 2004
